FAQ – Western Greenway Marathon


What is the date of the race for 2018?

Event Date: Saturday 24th March 2018


What is the start time of the race?

Half Marathon: Start time: 11.30am
Full Marathon: Start time: 10.00am
Ultra Marathon: Start time: 7 am
Relay Team: Start time: 10.00am


What are the race cutoff times?

Cutoff for the Half Marathon is 3.5 hrs net time

Cutoff for the Full Marathon is 7 hours net time

Cutoff for the Ultra Marathon is 10 hours net time


Will there be Waves?

This is based upon participant numbers, however the start location allows for filtering of competitors prior to entering the Greenway.


What is the Route?

The Route will be available on the main Western Greenway Marathon webpage and will be sent by e-mail to all competitors prior to the event.

What is the Waiver and Release details and the Declaration and Waiver of Entry?

This is part of the registration process ,it must be agreed before payment and entry into the Marathon is permitted.


Can I run for a charity?

Yes, participants can run for charity this is separate from the event. The event organisers accept no liability for money raised by a participant.


Do I need a qualifying time to run?



What is the entry fee?

Entry Fee Standard Marathon: €55

Entry Fee Half Marathon: €34

Entry Fee Ultra Marathon: €65

Entry Fee Relay Marathon: €120


What happens when I enter on-line?

You will receive a confirmation of entry.

Race organisers will be in contact in the months prior to the event with further details.

What should I do if I am ill or injured before the race?

You must be fit and well to run a marathon. Severe exertion during or soon after any kind of fever is extremely dangerous. If you find yourself in this situation you must withdraw – even if this is the first time you are running the event.


Do I get a refund or deferment if I can’t run?

Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and entries are NON-TRANSFERABLE. Sorry, no exceptions. Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate.


Can I transfer my number if I can’t run?

You may not give or sell your number to anyone else. You may not transfer your application to the following year or another Atlantic Series Event.


Swapping / Selling Race Numbers

Selling or swapping / attempting to sell or swap race numbers will result in the number being cancelled.


I recently registered for the full marathon however would like to change this to the half marathon? Can this be arranged?

Yes, however no refunds of the price difference is possible


Where do I pick up my RACE / BIB number (Race Pack)?

Race numbers (race pack) will be available for collection in Westport on the evening prior to the event Friday 23rdMarch and in Westport on the morning of the event.

Times and location will be posted shortly.


Where on the race (bib) number do I include medical information?

On the back of your race (bib) please put any important medical information and a contact number in case of emergencies.


I am hoping to do this event in March but unfortunately I’m not able to run at the moment but would like to walk it, I’m wondering can walkers set off earlier than runners?

No, but we can accommodate you with an open cut off time within the confines of the event time provided it is only for the half and not the full and as a walker you are dressed appropriately as you will cool down at a different rate than a runner)


What forms of Photo ID are accepted at Registration?

Passport ID, Student Photo ID, Driving License or Government Issued Photo ID.


What water will be on the route?

Water will be provided at 10 locations (this will be detailed on the route map e0mailed to all competitors).


Can my Family Cross the finish line with me?

Sorry NO non-competitor (children, partner etc) allowed to enter the course or cross the finish line with you. Failure to comply may lead to disqualification.


What are the markers on the route?

Markers will be at each mile on the Route and every 5KM will also be marked.

There will be a bag drop facility available for all competitors at the race finish (Bags will be made available to participants at the race registration in Westport on the evening prior to the event).

Only the event bags provided will be permitted for transfer to race finish.
